Youth Functional Fitness
Kids need movement.
According to Human Kinetics, a number of studies conducted on both children and adolescents have clearly demonstrated that resistance training is effective in increasing strength. Strength training for children can involve improvements in neural mechanisms, including, but not limited to:
- Improved motor skill coordination.
- Increased motor unit activation.
- Other undetermined neurological adaptations.
A 2009 study in Sports Health also showed that children can improve strength by 30% to 50% after just 8 to 12 weeks of a well-designed strength training program. Regular physical activity helps children improve their fitness, build strong bones and muscles, control their weight, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
Whether your child needs a break in the middle of the day to move their bodies, or a class after being cooped up all day, we’ve got you covered. Specifically for ages 11-14, Loft’s Youth Fitness class helps pre-teens develop confidence and coordination at their own pace. All workouts are individually tailored within a group class.
Classes are taught at tweens’ developmental ability level for skill work and workouts. We teach essential movement skills that will leave your child feeling agile and competent. We’ll guide them through a variety of exercises, using equipment like lightweight barbells, dumbbells, and medicine balls. Along the way, they’ll develop muscle memory that will serve them for years to come.
